Snow/Ice:
Sno-King policy follows Edmonds School District procedure and closures in the event of game cancellation of snow and or ice. Games are cancelled if road conditions are reported to be icy throughout Edmonds or if 1" (an inch) or more of snow covers the roads. Typically, these are events that can be foreseen and cancellations are usually decided a day or more before the games would take place.
In these events, we suggest staying home and minimizing vehicular travel.
Smoke/Poor AQI:
Sno-King policy follows Edmonds School District procedure and closures in the event of game cancellation of smoke or poor Air Quality Index (AQI) in general. Games are cancelled if the AQI in the area or surrounding area reaches 150 or more. Typically, these are events that can be foreseen and cancellations are usually decided a day or more before the games would take place.
In these events, we suggest staying home and minimizing outside time as poor air exposure can cause health risks at all ages.
Flooding:
In the event of a flood where the field is covered in 2" or more in any given place on the field or play, games will be suspended or cancelled. Suspended play for short term flooding will be decided by officials and or Sno-King staff. Games that will be cancelled typically can be foreseen and usually decided a day or more before the games would take place.
In the case of a Flash Flood, shelter will need to be sought immediately and games will be typically cancelled by officials or Sno-King staff.
In these events, we suggest finding high ground and leaving the premises if possible. We also suggest travelling at lower speeds to prevent any vehicular accidents.
Lightning:
In the event of lightning, we will follow the 30-30 Lightning Rule, similar to the US Club Soccer and NFL Flag Rules state. If lightning is observed at the field, count to 30 seconds. If thunder is heard within those 30 seconds, play is suspended immediately and all parties at the field must find shelter (such as a car or an enclosed building). UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU TAKE SHELTER IN BASEBALL DUGOUTS OR OTHER EXPOSED METAL STRUCTURES. Games can return to play after 30 minutes from the last lightning strike and depending on officials and Sno-King staff confirmation.
In some cases, lightning can be predicted and warnings can be issued before games take place. However, in many cases lightning suspensions will be assessed at the field by the officials, Sno-King staff, or head coaches.
In these events, seeking shelter is mandatory and players, parents, coaches and all other parties must vacate the field in a safe and orderly manner.
Seismic Activity:
In the event of seismic activity, please refer to local weather and news for updates on severity and safety measures as necessary. Games will be suspended for up to 30 minutes as determined by the officials and/or Sno-King staff.
In these events, open air fields, not near tall structures (i.e. towers, trees, light poles, etc.), are generally safe to remain at until seismic activity ceases. HOWEVER, in the case you are in a building such as a gym, make sure to stay clear of the middle of the room, take place under thresholds, tables, or go outside in the wide open if possible.
